While surfing religious channels on my TV, I noticed a common thread through most of the programming. Nearly all of the content teaches the most basic form of Christianity. With some of them, if they get past John 3:16, you have just witnessed a bona fide miracle. The Apostle Paul said, “For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat” (see Hebrews 5:12).
The Apostle Paul calls us to be teachers. Why hasn’t this taken place? I think it hasn’t for a couple of reasons. First, there is no hunger or thirst after righteousness in the pew, just religious satisfaction. This is one of the most dangerous places the Church of America can be in. This type of attitude is precisely the one depicted in the Laodicea church age (see Revelation 3:14) An age where the mantra has been, “I have all this wealth (on paper)”. “I can relax and take it easy”. If you haven’t struck it rich yet you heard, “The wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous”. “Not to worry, God is in control”. In either case, it causes the believer not to stretch or grow. The problem with that is, anything that does not grow begins to die. In America we are dying because we don’t try, or because of too much pride.
Secondly, I think those in church leadership are partially to blame as well. Some not all, want to control the congregation so that they set themselves up as the “go to” person. This type of scenario puts them at the center of everything and makes people feel they are stuck in a religious prison, not having the latitude to move and do as God as wired them. Both reasons produce the same result: It causes the Christian not to grow and remain in a “baby” state. As with any baby two things occur: They can not feed themselves and they can not defend themselves. When the enemy come in with a lie, how do they defend the Truth? Their first reaction is, “I’ll call my Pastor. He’ll know what to say”. Scripture says “Give an answer to the hope that is within you” (see I Peter 3:15). However, this is not their first response because they have not been trained that way.
It has been said by theologians and commentators, that things are first done spiritually and then naturally. This seems to be no different. We the Church in America, have created a spiritual “Nanny State”. Where its citizens are completely dependant on the State (Church Leadership) regarding how to think, how to act, how to give and how to live. We now have produced the same type of mentality in the natural where Socialists have taken over most governmental authority positions and is now squeezing the Church leadership to conform or shut down their ministries. This action will cause Church leadership to confront themselves with not only the Truth of God’s Word, but the reality that their living will possibly be dictated by the State and not their freedom of choice.
This action should serve as a warning to the Body of Christ at large. Your freedom is dependent not so much of what God allows, but on what you allow. Shall another person – be it in the pulpit or in government dictate to you what God’s will is for your life on this side of eternity? Or will you you stand up, speak up and mount up an offensive to take back and preserve the rights and freedoms that God has given you to steward? At the end of the day what will you wipe away from your mouth? – Steak Sauce or Apple Sauce?
